Production Has Begun On Guillermo Del Toro's 'Nightmare Alley' Starring Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett & More

Believe it or not, outside of one lull between “Hellboy II” and “Pacific Rim,” filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has consistently released a new film every couple of years. But it’s already been over two years since his Oscar-winning film “The Shape of Water,” and we still don’t have a new del Toro film on the horizon. Well, thankfully, that seems to be changing, as the filmmaker has officially begun production on his upcoming project, “Nightmare Alley.”

According to Searchlight, del Toro has begun principal photography on his new film, “Nightmare Alley,” which is based on the William Gresham novel of the same name. The film, which was co-written by del Toro and Kim Morgan, follows a con man and the cast and crew of a carnival in the mid-20th century.

Del Toro said, “I’m inspired and elated to be joined by this brilliant cast. Kim Morgan and I have worked with great passion to bring the dark, raw world and language of William Gresham to the screen and now we are joined by a superb group of artists and technicians to bring it to life.”

“Given the depth of this incredible cast, I consider it a bucket list privilege to be working alongside them all with the support of our great partners at Searchlight. It’s going to be a joy to watch these world-class actors and Guillermo elevate each other’s craft in this new interpretation of Gresham’s seminal novel,” said producer J. Miles Dale.

No release date has been given for the film.

Here’s Searchlight’s official description of “Nightmare Alley”:
