Gwyneth Paltrow Curates Film Lists By Other Famous People

One thing we have in common with Jezebel is a deep lack of understanding as to why the hell Gwyneth Paltrow has a website/newsletter/any sort of platform to tell us about expensive face creams and other crap we can’t afford. However, she recently posted some content we can get behind by asking Steven Spielberg, Wes Anderson, Jon Favreau, James Gray and Sofia Coppola to send her lists of their top five DVD rental picks.

Anderson offers some obscure and interesting sounding titles, from Japanese cartoon series Neon Genesis Evangelion to Ingmar Bergman’s “From the Life of Marionettes” to documentary “Terror’s Advocate.”

Both Spielberg and Coppola agree you should rent “Toostie” – perhaps they’re a revival in progress we should be more aware of? Spielberg further recommends renting old Francis Ford Coppola favorite “The Godfather”and classic western “The Searchers.” Coppola interesting recommends putting Chris Rock’s 2004 stand up “Never Scared” and hipster favorite of 2008 “Let the Right One In” into your Netflix queue.

Slightly more obscure (by comparison) director Gray points you to a fantastic art house classic with “The 400 Blows” and to mix it up “Singin’ In The Rain.” You’ll have a hell of a night if you watch them back to back. Favreau rounds it out mainstream style by suggesting you rent “Kung-Fu Panda” because his kid liked it and the Top Chef box set. Way to be of the people there, bra.

Check Gwennie’s newsletter for more – we have to admit reading the suggestions of those who we only read about on The Playlist is kind of endlessly fascinating. It’s like getting a tiny, edited chance to judge someone based on their movie collection.
