'House of Flying Daggers' Director Zhang Yimou's Latest Film To Premiere At Cannes

Yeah, so maybe Zhang Yimou’s last film, “The Great Wall,” wasn’t the best piece of cinema ever created. The Matt Damon-led film was a supposed to be a global hit, as it had an all-star cast and was directed by one of the legends in Chinese film doing his first ever English-language film. But instead, it just was meh. But never fear! Yimou’s back with his latest film “Shadow,” and it’s going to premiere at Cannes.

According to a recent tweet by Cannes insider Cédric Succivalli, the film is a late addition to the Cannes Out-of-Competition lineup. This is great news for fans of Yimou, who have been waiting for the director to release his latest film. “Shadow” is seen by many as a return-to-form for the legendary director. While we don’t have much knowledge of the plot, the film looks to be yet another beautiful martial arts film from the same director who brought us “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers.”

The film is reportedly set in China’s Three Kingdoms Era, from 220 – 280, and stars Deng Chao, Sun Li, Zheng Kai, and Guan Xiaotong. “Shadow” was scripted by Yimou and Wei Li.

We also have a look at the poster for the film, which makes the modern American action film poster look like garbage in comparison. If the film is anything like the incredible poster, then maybe audiences will be willing to forget all about “The Great Wall.”

The Cannes Film Festival begins May 9. “Shadow” is expected to hit theaters around the world later this year.
