Idris Elba & Sonoya Mizuno Sign On As Leads In Mo-Cap Fantasy Film 'Mouse Guard'

Motion capture technology has increased so much in recent years, thanks to films like “Avatar” and the awesome ‘Apes’ trilogy, that it’s now possible to make “live-action” films featuring non-human leads and somehow not make it look silly. One of the upcoming films that are hoping to benefit from this technology is “Mouse Guard.” And if a story about medieval mice isn’t enough to garner your interest perhaps the names Idris Elba and Sonoya Mizuno might help.

For those that aren’t aware, as we reported a couple of weeks ago, newly-acquired Disney subsidiary Fox is developing a film called “Mouse Guard,” directed by Wes Ball, based on the popular comic book series of the same name. The story follows the titular group of mice that have been drafted to defend their fellow mice from the harsh conditions and predators that await them in the fantasy world.

And according to Deadline, Mizuno and Elba have signed on to star in the film, joining previously announced actors Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in the cast. Elba is already a known quantity at this point. The A-lister has been voted the sexiest man alive, but it’s not just his abs that garner attention. The actor is also known for his incredible talent, as well. Having burst onto the scene years ago thanks to his villainous role in “The Wire,” Elba hasn’t stopped and is now headlining major film projects, like the upcoming “Hobbs and Shaw” action film coming later this year. Oh yeah, and he’s everyone’s favorite choice for the next James Bond.

Mizuno is probably not a name that many outside the most well-versed film fans will immediately know. However, the young actress has already accumulated a diverse IMDB, featuring standout roles in Alex Garland’sEx Machina,” the Netflix series “Maniac,” and last year’s mega-hit “Crazy Rich Asians.” Her next major role is in the FX series from filmmaker Garland, titled “Devs.”
