‘Imperfect Women’ Trailer: Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington & Kate Mara Lead Apple’s Twisty Friendship-Crime Thriller

A murder fractures a decades-long bond, with Annie Weisman steering an eight-episode limited series adaptation of Araminta Hall’s novel for Apple TV.

If you’re going to build a limited-series pressure cooker, you could do worse than starting with two stars who know how to turn composure into a weapon. Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Shining Girls”) and Kerry Washington (“Scandal,” “Little Fires Everywhere”) headline and executive produce “Imperfect Women,” an Apple TV+ psychological thriller that uses a single violent rupture as the fuse for something messier: the slow, ugly unspooling of friendship, memory, and self-preservation.

Apple has released the teaser for the series, which premieres Wednesday, March 18, with the first two episodes, followed by weekly installments every Wednesday through April 29.

Based on Hall’s novel, the setup is deceptively clean: a crime shatters the lives of three women whose friendship stretches back decades. From there, the investigation doesn’t just chase a culprit; it peels back the private compromises and buried betrayals that can calcify inside even the closest relationships. Apple’s official framing leans into guilt and retribution, love and betrayal, and the ways “truth” can arrive in pieces that don’t fit together until it’s too late to pretend you didn’t see them.

Moss and Washington are joined by Kate Mara (“House of Cards,” “A Teacher”), with Joel Kinnaman (“For All Mankind”), Corey Stoll (“Billions”), and Leslie Odom Jr. (“Hamilton,” “One Night in Miami…”) among the key co-stars. The ensemble also includes Sheryl Lee Ralph, Ana Ortiz, Wilson Bethel, and Keith Carradine, alongside Audrey Zahn, Jill Wagner, Rome Flynn, Violette Linnz, Indiana Elle, Jackson Kelly, and Sherri Saum.

Behind the camera, Weisman (“Physical,” “Based on a True Story”) creates and showruns, continuing her Apple relationship after “Physical.” Lesli Linka Glatter (“Homeland,” “Love & Death”) directs and executive-produces episodes one, four, and five, giving the series an immediate jolt of prestige-TV muscle in the stretch where these stories tend to either tighten the screws or lose the thread.

“Imperfect Women” is a co-production between 20th Television and Apple Studios, with Moss and Lindsey McManus executive producing via Love & Squalor Pictures and Washington producing under the Simpson Street banner with Pilar Savone. Hall also serves as an executive producer, alongside writer Kay Oyegun.

The teaser’s promise is familiar but durable: a glossy surface, a terrible act, and the creeping realization that the people you thought you knew may have been editing themselves the entire time. With Moss and Washington at the center—two performers who can make a pause feel like a decision—the series is positioned to play less like a puzzle box and more like an autopsy of trust, performed in real time.
