Jared Leto Would “Love” To Star In Another ‘Blade Runner’ Film

Denis Villeneuve’sBlade Runner 2049” is a beautifully crafted, well-acted, quality sci-fi film that also serves as a worthy sequel to the classic Ridley Scott film from 1982. But what it isn’t, sadly, is a box office hit. And because of that, it seems unlikely that there will ever be another ‘Blade Runner’ film anytime soon. But don’t tell Jared Leto that, as the actor recently named his character from ‘2049’ as one of the roles he’d love to revisit eventually.

Speaking to Jake’s Takes, when asked about returning to the role of The Joker in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming “Justice League” Director’s Cut, the actor actually took that as an opportunity to talk about his career in general and why he’d love to return to the world of “Blade Runner 2049.”

“You know, with every character I play, I don’t know if it’s because I work so intently and I tend to dig really deep and put a lot of time and energy into it, but when I’m done playing with them, done playing the parts, I do miss them a little bit,” Leto explained. “And you do all this work anyway, it would be kind of nice to go back and explore other [characters]. Like Niander Wallace in ‘Blade Runner,’ I would love to play that part again as a prequel or something.”

Obviously, if you’re a fan of “Blade Runner 2049,” you probably know that Niander Wallace is a huge part in the film, not only in terms of the story, but in the world of ‘2049.’ In fact, the story of Wallace has been expanded a little in short films that took place before Villeneuve’s film. But there hasn’t been any real discussion about a sequel or prequel feature set in the world of “Blade Runner.” There was talk of potential animated spinoffs or even a new sequel that isn’t tied directly into the events of ‘2049.’ So, maybe there’s hope still of Leto returning to his role.

Regardless, with Leto bringing back “Tron” for another round, it’s clear the actor doesn’t have any problems with reviving franchises that seem to be in trouble. Maybe he can work his magic on “Blade Runner?”
