Jeremy Irons Cast In Damon Lindelof's 'Watchmen' Series For HBO

It appears that his time in the DCEU has not scared actor Jeremy Irons away from a future in comic book films and TV shows. The legendary actor has signed on to star in the upcoming “WatchmenHBO series. Deadline is reporting that the actor will star in the pilot, which is in production now, and will have a regular role in the series if it’s picked up by the network.

Irons’ exact role in the show is still not known, but as we’ve seen in leaked production photos and in writer-creator Damon Lindelof’s letter to fans, the characters that will inhabit the world of the “Watchmen” TV series are very different than the ones in the acclaimed graphic novel and not-so-acclaimed Zack Snyder film. Deadline says that he will most likely play the “aging and imperious lord of a British manor.” Yeah, that sounds about right.

Jeremy Irons is a very accomplished actor that has most recently been seen playing Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler Alfred in both “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and its sequel “Justice League.” However, before that, the actor has been nominated for just about every award, including the coveted MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss (“Lolita”), and has his fair share of Golden Globes, Emmys, and Oscar wins under his belt.

He joins a series that has a lot of intrigue surrounding it. HBO is always on the lookout for their next big hit, and with “Game of Thrones” wrapping up and “Westworld” reaching the height of popularity, “Watchmen” could be next in line as the crown jewel of the network. That is, of course, if Lindelof can nail the execution, which many fear is impossible. Not because of the writer’s track record, but instead because of the monumental task of adapting “Watchmen.”

Obviously, there’s no word yet on a premiere date for the series, as HBO has yet to commit, but hopefully, we’ll get to see just what Lindelof and Co. have planned.
