Joel Edgerton Does Not Rule Out The Return Of Uncle Owen In The Obi-Wan Series

You know how it goes. Ever since it was confirmed that Ewan McGregor was going to reprise the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the still-untitled Obi-Wan TV show for Disney+, everyone started to wonder who else from the “Star Wars” franchise could make an appearance. The latest actor to comment on it? Joel Edgerton, who definitely doesn’t want to rule out an appearance, or the chance to get more of that “Star Wars” money.

As reported by DiscussingFilm, while appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the Australian actor teased the possibility of him returning to the franchise far, far away. “There is a very real possibility. There’s potentially an assassin on a rooftop just outside the window if I say the wrong thing. I’d love to say all sorts of things. I’m just not going to.” Of course, that doesn’t mean he will do it, but it doesn’t mean he won’t! After all, McGregor teased his return for years until it was confirmed that an Obi-Wan centric project was actually happening.

Edgerton, of course, first played the role of Owen Lars in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones” and returned at the end of “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” where Owen and his wife Beru Lars are briefly seen having adopted baby Luke Skywalker following Padme’s death. Owen’s life, as far as we know, is an uneventful one after that, or at least that’s how it seems when we next see him as portrayed by Phil Brown in the original 1977’s “A New Hope.” But we also thought Obi-Wan’s life became a nomadic and mundane one in the years between McGregor and Sir Alec Guinness’ portrayals, so who knows what could have happened in those decades and the adventures those two could have. Fingers crossed there’s a bottle episode where Obi-Wan and Uncle Owen have to fix a droid and then go get drunk together at the cantina.

Before we potentially see him return to “Star Wars,” Edgerton will be seen later this year in Netflix’s “The King,” also starring Robert Pattinson and Timothée Chalamet, as well as in the Amazon TV series “The Underground Railroad” directed by Barry Jenkins.
