John Krasinski Would Like To See Who's On The Other Side Of The Fires In 'A Quiet Place' Sequel

If at the beginning of 2018, you had said that the guy from “The Office” would co-write, star, and direct a film that had a bigger domestic box office than Steven Spielberg’sReady Player One,” Ava DuVernay’sA Wrinkle in Time,” and The Rock’sRampage,” we would have laughed. But here we are, in May, and John Krasinski has the biggest non-Marvel Studios film of the year, domestically, with his modestly-budgeted horror flick “A Quiet Place.”

So, even though the film is still chugging along 5 weeks later, everyone is clamoring to know what’s going to come in the next installment in Paramount’s obvious new franchise. Well, **SPOILER ALERT**, we know that Krasinski probably won’t star in it. Outside of that, the possibilities are endless.

In fact, in a recent Deadline interview, the writer/director/actor talks about what he thinks would make a good sequel to the film, and unsurprisingly, he says that he would like to explore the greater world of “A Quiet Place.”

“The thing that I loved in the movie,” he said, “where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?”

Krasinski concedes that there was too much going on in his film to have explicit world-building, but it’s ripe for potential sequels. “In the extreme these characters are going through, there’s no room to think about that. They’re there, there’s an old man who’s about to scream, they just have to deal with that. I think it would be interesting to see what’s going on elsewhere at this same time,” he says.

Even though it’s clear that there’s a sequel to be made by the studio, at the time of filming, Krasinski wasn’t sold on the idea of a franchise. He just wanted to make a quality film. “To be perfectly honest, it was never really on my mind while we were making it,” he said. “I never really thought of it as an expanded world; I always thought of it as a one-off.”

Well, “A Quiet Place” is not a one-off and will be getting a sequel, as it’s already been announced, but we’ll have to wait and see what the plot actually is and if we can expect to find out who’s on the other end of those fires.
