Jonah Hill Thinks Amazon "F*cked Up" The Release Of His Best Acting Performance

Jonah Hill has gone from “the kid from ‘Superbad’” to one of the best actors working today. Hell, even though “mid90s” isn’t the greatest film ever, Hill’s directorial debut is actually pretty fun and worth a watch, as well. And though he was nominated for two Oscars for his performance in “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Moneyball,” respectively, according to Hill, his best work is in a film you probably didn’t see.

As part of the industry’s COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic coverage, Hill teamed up with GQ to offer a list of 20 films that he thinks you should watch while you self-isolate. In that list, way down at #19 is 1989’s “Drugstore Cowboy” from director Gus Van Sant. While the explanation for why he included the film in his top 20 includes an actual critique of the film, Hill also uses that space to explain his love for Van Sant and why he’s upset that you probably didn’t watch the film that the two collaborated on.

“Gus Van Sant is one of my mentors, one of my favorite people on the planet, and pioneer of queer cinema,” said Hill. “He made a film with myself and Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara two years ago called ‘He Won’t Get Far on Foot’ and nobody saw it ‘cause Amazon completely fucked it up. But it’s the best acting I have done and will ever do.”

Odds are, if you’re a regular reader of this site, you’re well aware of “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot.” Hill is right, of course—the film definitely didn’t turn into a cultural phenomenon that some Joaquin Phoenix-led films end up doing. That being said, it’s a well-made film that is, obviously, very well-acted. While we’re not sure it’s Hill’s best performance, if he thinks it is, then it’s probably worth seeking out if you haven’t seen it already.

The good news about Amazon Studios handling the distribution of the film is that ‘He Won’t Get Far On Foot’ is easy to find and watch, as it’s free to stream on the Prime Video service. So, you can just add that as #21 to Hill’s list.
