Julianne Moore, Patricia Clarkson Set For 2019 Karlovy Vary Film Festival

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is known for its international premieres and focus on Eastern European cinema, but the Czech Republic mainstay also waves with its annual tributes.  Last year saw Tim Robbins and Barry Levinson earn a Crystal Globe and at recent festivals, Willem Dafoe and Casey Affleck also were honored. This year the 54 edition of Karlovy Vary is bestowing its highest honor to Patricia Clarkson and Julianne Moore.

Clarkson recently starred in HBO’s “Sharp Objects” and won a Golden Globe for her performance (she’s expected to land an Emmy nod next month). She was nominated for an Academy Award for “Pieces of April” and is a two-time Emmy winner for her work on “Six Feet Under.”  Her next project is expected to be Isabel Coixet’s “Light on Broken Glass” opposite Chris Cooper.  Clarkson will present Coixet’s 2014 romantic comedy, “Learning to Drive,” at the festival.

Moore, who starred with Clarkson in “Far From Heaven,” recently starred in “Gloria Bell” and will present her new film “After the Wedding” at Karlovy Vary.  The film’s director and Moore’s husband, Bart Freundlich will also be on hand as well as co-star Billy Crudup. “Wedding” originally opened the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The Oscar winner will next appear in Joe Wright’s “The Woman in the Window” this fall opposite Amy Adams, Anthony Mackie and Gary Oldman.

Affleck, who was lauded with a Crystal Globe in 2017, will return to present his recent directorial effort, “Light of My Life,” which premiered at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival.

The festival also announced that “Late Night,” opening nationwide in the U.S. on Friday, will close the festival on July 6.

The 2019 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival runs from June 28-July 6.
