Kevin Spacey Thinks His Career Situation Is Similar To The Millions Out Of Work Due To The Pandemic

It wasn’t all that long ago that headlines featuring the name Kevin Spacey were regarding big-time roles in Oscar-worthy films. But yet, after sexual assault allegations against the actor, compounded by a series of cringe-worthy, possibly offensive videos, the name Kevin Spacey in a news item normally leads to something bad. And here we are, with more evidence of the latter, as the actor used the global pandemic to once again talk about how he’s been mistreated.

Spacey recently appeared on the Bitz & Pretzels podcast (via The Daily Mail) and he spoke up about the current COVID-19 pandemic and how displaced workers that have been furloughed or laid off due to the deadly virus is actually similar to what happened to him when he became blacklisted after being accused of sexually assaulting someone. You know, same-same, right?

“I don’t often like to tell people that I can relate to their situation because I think it undermines the experience that they may be having, which is their own unique and very personal experience,” said Spacey. “But in this instance, I feel as though I can relate to what it feels like to have your world suddenly stop. … And so while we may have found ourselves in similar situations, albeit for very different reasons and circumstances, I still believe that some of the emotional struggles are very much the same.”

He added, “I do have empathy for what it feels like to suddenly be told that you can’t go back to work or that you might lose your job and that it’s a situation that you have absolutely no control over.”

While his logic is completely flawed and incredibly tone-deaf, it’s clear that Spacey is using semantics to equate himself to the terrible situations that millions in the US are facing after being let go or furloughed from their jobs. However, unlike Spacey, who is doing just fine and isn’t filing for unemployment, millions of other people are struggling to put food on the table. So, maybe next time he shouldn’t compare himself to them, huh?

“I don’t want to sugarcoat this devastating time that we’re in, I am hoping that I can encourage you to see an opportunity in all of this and turn this into a positive,” he concluded.

Maybe this situation will encourage Kevin Spacey to maybe not turn a global pandemic into a new way to defend his alleged actions and make it about himself? If history is any proof, then probably not.
