John Krasinski Has Chosen 'Life On Mars' As His Next Directorial Outing

After the $50 million opening weekend for his film, “A Quiet Place,” actor-director John Krasinski finds himself with a golden ticket. With a monster opening, the filmmaker now has the ability to do pretty much whatever he wants as a follow-up to his thriller, and it looks like we now know what that film is going to be.

According to The Wrap, Krasinski is finishing up a deal that would see him direct a film titled “Life on Mars.” Teaming up with “A Quiet Place” producers Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller, Krasinski would helm the film that follows a woman who is a descendant of a human colony on Mars that has long since been abandoned. She discovers that she is able to breathe the air on the Red Planet, which changes her life. “Life on Mars” will be adapted from the short story by Cecil Castellucci titled “We Have Always Lived on Mars.”

Unlike “A Quiet Place,” Krasinski will stay behind the camera on this project, as it sounds like he isn’t interested in starring in the film. No word on when this project might see production, but Krasinski is going to have to shift gears soon to begin promoting his next project, where he stars in the upcoming Amazon series “Jack Ryan.” That series begins its run on the streaming service in August. And if that series becomes a massive hit, then it looks like the filmmaker will have a very busy schedule for the foreseeable future.

Currently, “Life on Mars” is in the beginning stages of development, but the report also names Paramount, who distributed “A Quiet Place” (and which desperately needed a hit, as we discussed), as the studio that is most likely going to produce the film.

Hopefully, Krasinski will be able to replicate his horror success with this new sci-fi film.
