'The Last Jedi': Rian Johnson Shows Everybody How The Force Works

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

Writer and director Rian Johnson certainly knew that when we signed up for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” he’d be putting a big fanboy target on his back. But the filmmaker likely wasn’t prepared for the binary, love/hate conversation that has emerged around the movie. There doesn’t seem to be any kind of middle ground when it comes to the latest chapter in the saga, with some very vocal fans feeling utterly betrayed by ‘The Last Jedi.’

Through it all, Johnson has been exceedingly patient. Even though he’s already explained why the film’s climatic sequence, where Luke Skywalker uses a Force projection to square off with Kylo Ren on Crait, makes sense, even as fanboys have cried “That’s not how the Force works!”, Johnson has once again hit Twitter to subtweet everybody. Behold!

Burn. In case you’re wondering, Johnson pulled from the shelf “The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force,” a 2010 book by Daniel Wallace.

Meanwhile, here’s some additional context. When we spoke to Johnson last month, he emphasized that this mastery of the Force, can only come from those with great power. And the Force connection between Kylo Ren and Rey, and Luke’s Force projection, are very unique events in the galaxy that likely won’t be repeated.

“[Kylo Ren and Rey’s Force] connection is only happening because of Snoke[‘s power]. And not only that, obviously as Kylo says, even with someone with Rey’s power it would kill her to try and open up that connection,” the director explained. “So it’s something incredibly rare that takes a lot of power and we can see what it does to Luke in the end. It’s Luke motherfucking Skywalker and it takes out all the life force out of him to do what he did. So, it’s not something I think you’ll see casually done in the future.”

We’re sure the arguments will continue, so take it to the comments section. And maybe give this video by “I Hate Everything” a look too. It isn’t going to go the way you think…
