‘Lovecraft Country’ Trailer: A Man Fights Monsters & Racism In Jordan Peele's HBO Series

With the legacy of systemic racism being on the minds of just about every person in the US right now, due to the brutal killing of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer, it seems like fitting, if not tragic timing for HBO to prepare to release Jordan Peele’s upcoming series, “Lovecraft Country.”

As seen in the new teaser trailer for “Lovecraft Country,” the series follows the journey of a Black man and woman through the Deep South during the 1950s while they attempt to uncover the hidden legacy of the man’s family and fight monsters along the way. Oh yeah, and also be confronted with ridiculous racism that ran rampant in Jim Crow America. Sure, the series has its fair share of genre elements that are likely going to give it crossover appeal, but there are obvious societal messages in the series that will hopefully put “Lovecraft Country” up there with films such as Peele’s own “Get Out” and “Us.”

“Lovecraft Country” is created and showrun by Misha Green, who previously worked on the drama series, “Underground.” Jordan Peele’s Monkey Paw and JJ AbramsBad Robot production companies produce the highly-anticipated drama series.

HBO is expected to premiere “Lovecraft Country” in August.

Here’s the synopsis:
Based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff of the same name, the series follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
