Mark Wahlberg To Star Alongside Tom Holland In Sony's 'Uncharted'

It appears that after years of development, with various actors and directors coming and going, Sony is finally moving forward with its “Uncharted” film adaptation. This time, the studio has settled on Tom Holland starring and Travis Knight (“Bumblebee“) on board as director. And in a nice turn of events, it seems as if the studio is bringing back one of the actors that were originally going to star in the film’s lead role as a supporting character.

According to Variety, Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to co-star alongside Holland in the upcoming adventure film, “Uncharted.” The report says that he’s playing the American adventurer/treasure hunter, Victor “Sully” Sullivan, who will act as a mentor and father figure to the young Nathan Drake (Holland).

As mentioned, Wahlberg’s involvement with “Uncharted” isn’t anything new. Years ago, when David O. Russell was aboard to helm the picture, the actor was attached to play Nathan Drake. However, as things tend to happen, directors changed, and thus, actors changed. But now we have Wahlberg back, albeit in a more elder statesman sort of role in the film.

“Uncharted” is set to be based on the popular video game series that has dominated Playstation sales charts for years now. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the film adaptation, which is likely going to feel a bit like “Indiana Jones,” for damn near a decade.

Wahlberg has a number of projects lined up in the next year or so. He’s signed on to star in films like “Arthur the King” and “Infinite.” And interestingly enough, Travis Knight, before he signed on to helm “Uncharted,” was selected as a helmer for the long-in-development “Six Billion Dollar Man.” It’ll be interesting to see how he juggles the commitments, especially if “Uncharted” sticks to its early 2020 production date, which seems likely.
