‘Extraction 3’ Adds Pierce Brosnan, Don Lee, Joe Taslim & More To Chris Hemsworth’s Action-Packed Sequel

We’re ecstatic that it was announced that Idris Elba (“Hobbs & Shaw”) would be taking a bigger part in “Extraction 3” after being introduced in the second installment, reuniting him with his “Thor” franchise lead Chris Hemsworth (“Crime 101,” “Avengers: Doomsday”), and there is even more to celebrate as some heavyweight genre talent have boarded the third chapter in the Tyler Rake odyssey (a good-natured but flawed for-hire mercernary, who is often tasked to help rescue or exit people to safety while brutally fighting and shooting his way out of countries), which has already started filming in Australia.

Deadline has revealed some impressive new casting for the action-packed Netflix sequel, as former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan (“Black Bag,” “MobLand”) and cool-as-ice Korean superstar Don Lee (“Eternals,” “Train to Busan”) have taken supporting roles. Lee is already part of the expanded universe as he wrapped on his own solo Korean-language project titled “Tygo,” where he plays a former child soldier who grows up to become a skilled mercenary, directed by Lee Sang-yong (known for Lee’s “The Roundup” films and “The Good, The Bad, & The Weird“)

That’s not all, as notable Indonesian martial arts action star Joe Taslim has joined, who is best known for credits such as the recent buzzy international flick “The Furious,” Gareth Evans‘ landmark pic “The Raid,” “Fast & Furious 6,” and for playing Sub-Zero/Noob Saibot in the new “Mortal Kombat” films. A real-deal on-screen fighter, he should add a lot of credibility to the franchise, helmed by stuntman-turned-filmmaker Sam Hargrave. Others joining the call sheet are Chi Lewis-Parry, who plays Samson in “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” and Siena Agudong from Prime’s upcoming “Carrie” series, which hails from Mike Flanagan.

Hargrave is directing from a script penned by David Weil, based on a story penned by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo; the latter are also returning as producers via their production banner, AGBO. Franchise staple actress Golshifteh Farahani also returns as Rake’s professional cohort and fellow merc.

Essentially, it is starting to feel like this franchise is about to kick into “John Wick” gear, but we’ll have to wait and see if that’s just something we’re cooking up in our heads because of the fantastic new recruits for “Extraction 3” that were announced today, or if they’re about to push this sequel into overdrive with even more elaborate stunts.
