Michael B. Jordan Reportedly Teaming With 'Spider-Man' Director Jon Watts For 'Methuselah'

There are a few different ways that actors can find themselves the lead in a major film franchise. First, you can have Marvel Studios sign you to their latest franchise, and instantly, you’re a major movie star. Easy peasy. Or, you can just stumble into one, as audiences react to a surprising film that spawns a massive franchise (similar to “The Matrix”). But if you’re Michael B. Jordan, you aren’t satisfied with that, and his approach is more mathematical. As seen over the last year, Jordan is going to star in as many franchise-launching films as possible until one of them hits, such as his most recent venture “Methuselah.”

According to Deadline, Jordan is teaming with director Jon Watts to re-develop the film “Methuselah” for the big screen. The film is set to star the actor as a 400-year-old man that has used his time on Earth to become hyper-intelligent, learning languages, survival skills, and science. It sounds like a new version of “Highlander,” for sure.

“Methuselah” was originally developed a few years back as a Tom Cruise film, but never really got off the ground. In 2017, writer Tony Gilroy came aboard to turn in a new script for the potential franchise. Now, the report says that the studio and Jordan (who also produces) will be looking for a new writer to shape the script, yet again.

Watts is in talks to take on the film as a potential follow-up to his most recent work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and the upcoming “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” Before those films, Watts was also the filmmaker behind the projects “Cop Car” and “Clown.”

Jordan has also dabbled in the MCU, as the villain in the massive 2018 hit “Black Panther,” but is also the lead in the “Creed” franchise. He’s turned his sights on a variety of new potential franchises, including a new Tom Clancy film series as well as a just-announced “monster movie” with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

There’s no anticipated release date for “Methuselah,” but it appears that this time there’s a good shot we could see it hit the big screen eventually.
