‘Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses’: Elle Fanning & Julianne Moore To Star In Biopic About Children’s Author Margaret Wise Brown

Believe it or not, Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore have never worked together onscreen. But according to Deadline, that’s about to change, as the pair will star in “Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses,” a biopic about famous children book’s author Margaret Wise Brown. Rebecca Miller directs the picture, and also pens the script, adapting Leonard S. Marcus‘ book “Margaret Wise Brown: Awakened By The Moon.”

And by the subtitle of Marcus’ biography, one should be able to surmise that Brown is the author of the bedtime story “Goodnight Moon,” as well as “The Runaway Bunny” and other children’s classics. Despite passing away in 1952 at just 42 years of age, Brown’s legacy has sustained itself for decades since then, with several of her books remaining bestsellers to this day. Born in Brooklyn in 1910 and educated in Switzerland, Massachusetts, and Virginia before returning to NYC to teach and embark on her children’s book career. She died of an embolism after a surgery while on a book tour in Nice, France.

“Moonsong” will be Miller’s ninth film, and her first since the 2025 doc “Mr. Scorsese,” which won her a DGA Award an Indepdent Spirit Award, the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, and three Emmy nods. So wouldn’t you know it, but Martin Scorsese will executive produce the film. Producers include Miller’s producing partner Damon Cardasis via Round Films, Amanda Goodwin, Keri Selig, and Sasha Alexander.

Moore adds “Moonsong” to a list of upcoming projects that includes Jesse Eisenberg‘s “The Debut” and Tom Ford‘s “Cry To Heaven.” Meanwhile, Fanning just starred in the Apple TV+ series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” and earned an Emmy nod for Outstanding Lead Actress In a Comedy series for her performance. She stars next in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping” and “The Nightingale,” and is shooting “Discretion” with Nicole Kidman now.

Stay tuned for more details on “Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses,” which should be ready in time for awards season 2027.
