‘Narcos: Mexico’ Season 2 Teaser: No One Is Untouchable In Netflix’s Acclaimed Drug Cartel Drama

Netflix seems to have some obvious thoughts about how long a series should stay alive. Either the streamer is going to cancel a series after the first season, if it doesn’t drive business the way it should, or the platform will keep you around for around 5 seasons. By the end of that 5-year run, it’s clear that Netflix is ready to move on. Well, the folks behind “Narcos” figured out how to cheat the system, rebooting its series after three seasons and starting fresh with “Narcos: Mexico” last year.

Now, with Season 2 around the corner, the ‘Mexico’ spin-off is done introducing its new cast of characters and is ready to get down to the real issues that plague drug cartels — greed, betrayal, and, of course, the authorities.

As seen in the first teaser for “Narcos: Mexico” Season 2, Diego Luna stars as Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, the leader of the Guadalajara Cartel and one of the driving forces of the modern drug trade in Mexico. However, Gallardo has more problems than just Scoot McNairy’s Walt Breslin coming for him with the full power of the DEA. In addition to that major issue, Luna’s character has to deal with betrayal from the inside, with his own people gunning for him.

Being the leader of a cartel is tough, never let anyone tell you otherwise.

As mentioned, ‘Narcos’ has done something fresh with its story that hasn’t been seen very often with TV series before. Instead of telling its story over the course of 4 or 5 seasons and then leaving, the folks behind the scenes finished the original ‘Narcos’ story in 3 seasons and decided to move ahead in the timeline and bring in a brand-new cast to tell a new story with very similar themes and setting, effectively turning ‘Narcos’ into an anthology series, but an anthology told over multiple years and not just 12 episodes. And because of that, it always feels fresh and easy for newbies to jump into. It’s pretty genius, honestly.
