New ‘Doctor Strange’ Poster Plus Updates On ‘Captain Marvel,’ ‘Defenders,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ & More

Doctor StrangeCaptain America: Civil War” has screened for critics (our review arrives tomorrow, so keep a look out), and Marvel and its various heads, producers, writers and artistic coalition forces have been doing interviews for the film and various pieces of news are flying fast and furious.

It’s nearly impossible to keep up at the moment, but besides the excellent (if we do say so ourselves) interview we just ran with Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind ‘Civil War,’ you should probably be paying attention to the following bits of news. That is, if you’re a Marvel fan (and or are just curious).

First up: are Thor and Star-Lord from “Guardians Of The Galaxy” going to be in “Avengers: Infinity Wars”? Well, you always assumed Thor would rejoin the team and the answer is yes. Star-Lord? Well, quotes have been sort of taken out of context. The Russo brothers have said they would love to use that character, but that doesn’t mean he’s confirmed yet. Look at it as a tease at best for now. [ComicBook]

Speaking of characters that probably won’t be in the ‘Infinity War’ films, Charlie Cox, the star of “Daredevil,” has said that Marvel have not contacted him at all about being in any films at the moment. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen, but they’re likely going to stick with their MCU characters and not crossover television roles for the time being. Cox however does say that “The Defenders” — the project that teams up all the Marvel Netflix characters, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones — should shoot by the end of this year. Speaking of Marvel’s Netflix properties, their show “Iron Fist” is next. The show’s lead, Danny Rand, has already been announced, Finn Jones from “Game Of Thrones,” but the main villain has also been confirmed. “The Lord of the Rings” alum David Wenham is joining the cast and he will play ruthless corporate leader Harold Meachum, a former partner with the parents of Rand at the time of their deaths. “Dexter” alum Scott Buck will serve as showrunner. Jones says he’s currently preparing for the title role which means lots of physical training and meditation. “I’ve always dreamed of a role that bridged spiritual discipline and badass superhero,” he said. Did you know The Wasp almost made it into “Captain America: Civil War”? Instead, she’ll be saved for her own movie “Ant-Man And The Wasp” in 2018. “Wasp was in early versions of that [big fight] sequence as well, but we said, ‘We want to save that for Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ because that’s so much what the movie is going to be about: her as a hero. We also wanted… Joe and Anthony [Russo] said they needed something big to turn the battle, and that just seemed like the greatest way to do that,” Kevin Feige recently said in the ‘Civil War’ press conference. [Slashfilm]

Speaking of Feige, he’s been doing the press rounds too so journos and fanboys have been asking him about the future of Marvel films. What’s up with “Captain Marvel” the picture that will be Marvel’s first female-lead super hero film? Well, apparently Marvel will reveal the director and the cast this summer. At a particular event? They’re not saying yet, but the hints feel like Comic-Con will be a good bet. [Fandango]

As for the other big solo movie coming up, “Black Panther,” Feige revealed that director Ryan Coogler is also co-writing the film and filming will begin early next year. What to expect from the movie? “[It’s] a very sweeping sort of geopolitical movie, set within the wonder of Wakanda and the action of the Panther," Feige said this week. [Collider/Fandango]
