New Trailer For 'Professor Marston & The Wonder Women'

Thus far, Annapurna has been playing it pretty cagey when it comes to “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women.” Certainly, the title does a lot of the heavy lifting, particularly when a certain DC Films effort is dominating the box office. But now, the curtain is being lifted just a little bit more.

Written and directed by Angela Robinson (“The L Word,” “True Blood“) and starring Luke Evans, Bella Heathcote, and Rebecca Hall, the biopic will detail the unconventional life of the titular Harvard psychologist who invented the lie detector, engaged in a polyamorous relationship, and created the iconic Wonder Woman character — which he based on the relationships with the women in his life. This certainly isn’t a story for all ages, but it’s definitely one that is unlike an superhero origin tale we’ve seen before. Here’s the official synopsis:

In a superhero origin tale unlike any other, the film is the incredible true story of what inspired Harvard psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston to create the iconic Wonder Woman character in the 1940’s. While Marston’s feminist superhero was criticized by censors for her ‘sexual perversity’, he was keeping a secret that could have destroyed him. Marston’s muses for the Wonder Woman character were his wife Elizabeth Marston and their lover Olive Byrne, two empowered women who defied convention: working with Marston on human behavior research — while building a hidden life with him that rivaled the greatest of superhero disguises.

“Professor Marston & The Wonder Women” opens on October 27th.
