Baz Luhrmann Casts Olivia DeJonge As Priscilla Presley In His Upcoming Elvis Biopic

Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic is still moving forward with stars Austin Butler as the King with Tom Hanks on board to play his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. And it appears that the filmmaker is busy rounding out his cast, as he’s bringing on actress Olivia DeJonge for a very important role.

According to Deadline, DeJonge has been cast to play Priscilla Presley in the upcoming untitled film. For those not familiar, Priscilla Presley, as the last name suggests, was the wife of Elvis from 1967 to their divorce in 1972. However, the courtship between Elvis and Priscilla controversially began years prior in 1959, when the young woman was only 14 years old. Eventually, Priscilla and Elvis would have a young daughter, Lisa Marie.

“Olivia is capable of manifesting the complex depth and presence that has made Priscilla Presley an icon in her own right,” said Luhrmann about the casting. “She’s an extremely talented young actor and the perfect counterpoint to Austin’s Elvis.”

DeJonge is still a relative unknown but has some notable projects under her belt. On the film side of things, she’s probably best known for her roles in M. Night Shyamalan’sThe Visit,” as well as projects like “Better Watch Out” and “Stray Dolls.” The young actress has also starred in series such as the TNT period drama “Will” and was recently seen in the Netflix series “The Society.”

The Elvis biopic is directed by Luhrmann, who co-wrote the script with writer Craig Pearce. The film isn’t your typical rock biopic, as the project is mainly focused on the life and career of Elvis, told through the relationship he had with his manager Parker.

No word on when the untitled drama will arrive in theaters.
