Olivia Wilde is definitely living her best life right now. After a successful acting career (which she’s still busy at), the actress proved she’s more than just a talent in front of the camera with the release of her directorial debut, “Booksmart.” Now, she’s also one of the most in-demand filmmakers working today. She’s turned that buzz into some serious opportunities, including a new Sony/Marvel film, rumored to be “Spider-Woman.” And in a new interview, she’s shedding some light on the project, while making sure not to upset a certain Marvel boss.

Appearing on the Shut Up, Evan podcast, Wilde was asked about her upcoming Sony/Marvel project. While the news is that she’s working on a “Spider-Man” spinoff film, the actual film is highly-rumored to be “Spider-Woman.” Though she wouldn’t confirm the details, Wilde was quick to talk about how she’s pleased to be part of a new wave of female filmmakers making a name for themselves in superhero films.
“We are seeing this incredible influx of female directors and storytellers getting to take hold of this genre, of this superhero space, and infuse it with their own perspective,” Wilde said. “So not only do I get to tell this story as a director, but I get to develop this story and that’s was what made it so exciting.”
Of course, considering this is a Sony project and not a Marvel Studios project, it’s believed that whatever hero Wilde is directing, it’ll be part of the expanding Spider-Verse and not necessarily the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That being said, in another comment about the film, she does drop the name of the Marvel Studios president, hinting that maybe Kevin Feige is going to have some involvement in the film.

She added, “All I can say is that is by far the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me. Not only do I feel like I get to tell a story that…God, it’s like listen to me trying to avoid Kevin Feige’s pellet gun.”
Of course, she could be talking out of turn. There’s no guarantee that Feige is working on anything with Sony outside of the main “Spider-Man” films. That being said, from what we’ve seen in the past, there has been confirmation that Feige does speak with Sony on a macro level about what they’re working on. So, while he may not be directly producing Wilde’s film, perhaps he does have a level of involvement, even if it’s fairly minor.
All that to say, Wilde seems jazzed about the superhero project, and whatever it is, we can only hope it’s as good as “Booksmart.”
