Sony To Release Extended Cut Of Tarantino's 'Once Upon A Time' This Friday With 10 Minutes Of New Footage

One of the worst-kept secrets since the summer was how Quentin Tarantino was probably working on a new cut of his latest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Originally, many felt that the filmmaker was taking the wealth of deleted material and creating a multi-part Netflix TV series out of the film, similar to what he did with “The Hateful Eight.” However, according to a new report, while he still may do that eventually, Tarantino has his sights set on a theatrical release of the film with new footage to help boost the box office.

According to Deadline, Sony is set to re-release “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” with over 10 minutes of new footage, spread over the course of four scenes that will bookend the Tarantino epic. Best of all, if you want to relive the director’s latest, with the new footage, the studio is going to put ‘Once Upon a Time’ back in over 1000 theaters for you to enjoy.

Adrian Smith, President of Domestic Distribution, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group said, “Audiences have shown tremendous support for this movie, and we look forward to offering them another opportunity to see the film as it’s meant to be seen – in theaters on the big screen – with more sights and sounds of the sixties from Quentin Tarantino as an added treat.”

Now, in most cases, the idea that 10 minutes would be added to a film is significant enough for people to get excited. However, over the course of the last several months, reports hinted at much more footage that was ultimately cut from the film, featuring actors that were teased as being part of the film, but weren’t showcased nearly as much as we thought, including Damon Herriman’s Charles Manson, Damian Lewis’ Steve McQueen, and Nicholas Hammond’s Sam Wanamaker.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to see what footage is added, and how it affects the run-time and pacing of the already-epic three-hour film. The re-issued “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is set to come back to theaters this Friday, October 25.
