While many Oscars viewers were greatly anticipating who would win the coveted trophies, over here, we were excited for the musical performances. Okay, and we were excited about the awards too, but seriously, this year was a stacked list of performers that got us hyped.
First, we have to mention that the Oscar for Best Song went to “Remember Me” by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez from the film “Coco.” Performing that song live was Miguel, Natalia Lafourcade, and actor Gael García Bernal. While the performers did an okay job, the song itself was a clear favorite to win, and deservedly so.

The highlight performances of the show belong to Sufjan Stevens and Mary J. Blige. Blige became the first performer ever nominated for a Best Song and Best Supporting Actress Oscar, for her work in “Mudbound.” While Blige eventually went home empty-handed, she turned in a performance that was incredible and one of the most memorable moments of the show.
Sufjan Stevens turned in, for our money, the best performance of the night. His rendition of “Mystery of Love” from “Call Me By Your Name” was beautiful. This says a lot considering that the song was greatly abridged, only coming in at just over one-and-a-half minutes in length. However, in that time, viewers got a taste of what makes Stevens such a talented artist, and why the song is one of the best of the year.
