'Paddington In Peru': Dougal Wilson Will Direct Third Film In Family-Friendly Franchise

The two ‘Paddington’ films are often cited as two of the best family-friendly films released over the last decade. What filmmaker Paul King was able to do with the two kids films is create features that not only are wildly popular amongst the littlest among us but also with grown-ups and the young at heart. Unfortunately, King isn’t returning to direct the newest ‘Paddington’ film, but we now know who is taking over the franchise.

According to STUDIOCANAL and Heyday Films, Dougal Wilson has been hired to take on the directing gig for the upcoming third film in the franchise, “Paddington in Peru.” If you’re unfamiliar with the franchise, you might be wondering why Peru plays a large part in the third film. You see, Paddington is from Darkest Peru, and so it makes sense he would venture back to the distant land. However, the exact plot of the third film remains under wraps.

“After ten years of working on the ‘Paddington’ movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure,” said King. “Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”

Wilson added, “As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington. It’s a massive responsibility, but all my efforts will be focused on making a third film that honors the love so many people have for this very special bear.”

Wilson is probably best known for his work in commercials. He has worked on ads for companies including Apple, Ikea, The BBC, and Amnesty International. Wilson has also worked on music videos for bands such as LCD Soundsystem, Coldplay, and Basement Jaxx, among others.

As mentioned, the first two ‘Paddington’ films were directed and co-written by Paul King. However, with his schedule dominated by the upcoming “Wonka,” starring Timothee Chalamet, the filmmaker doesn’t have the time to work on the third ‘Paddington’ film. Though, it appears, based on his statement, that he couldn’t be happier than to see Wilson take over the gig.

A release date for “Paddington in Peru” has yet to be announced. Filming is expected to begin in 2023.
