Paul Bettany Says Dead Vision Was Going To Originally Appear In 'Avengers: Endgame'

Paul Bettany is clearly having the most fun of his Marvel Studios career right now in the new TV series, “WandaVision.” In the show, his android superhero character is attempting to fit into suburban life by pretending to be the doofus sitcom husband. But after the end of “Avengers: Infinity War,” when Vision was shown dead and completely without hope of returning, it would have been crazy to think that a few years later, Bettany would be playing the character again in a sitcom. But according to the actor, there was going to be a potential hint at his return before “WandaVision.”

Speaking to his co-star, Elizabeth Olsen, for IMDB, Bettany talked about a “tag” that was going to be added to “Avengers: Endgame” that would have set up the return of Vision. Instead, the last we saw of him before joking around in a ‘50s sitcom was lying dead on the ground.

“At one point I was going to be in a tag, where you opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision,” Bettany explained to Olsen.

Many are expecting that the end result of “WandaVision” will see the return of Bettany’s Vision to the land of the living. Obviously, as has been set up quite a bit in the new Disney+ TV series, the show doesn’t take place in the real world and is likely a very strong figment of Wanda Maximoff’s imagination. And if there was a hint of that in ‘Endgame,’ then maybe people wouldn’t be as surprised by the end of “WandaVision?”

Of course, it’s probably more of an ‘Endgame’ problem why the Vision tease wasn’t included. Judging by the end of that ‘Avengers’ film, it’s clear that some sort of detour to show Vision in a bodybag would have taken us out of the emotion of that film’s powerful ending.

Alas, we’ll just have to be okay with what we’re given with Vision’s return on Disney+. It doesn’t sound like Bettany is all that broken up over missing out on an ‘Endgame’ appearance.
