'Power Rangers' Producer Planning Five Sequels

To the surprise of no one, apparently there are more “Power Rangers” films in the pipeline. With the new reboot set to hit theaters, the producer of the film, and man responsible for the whole darn thing, Haim Saban is not only planning for one sequel. No, Saban has a plan for five more.

“We already have a six-movie story arc,” Saban told Variety. “If this film is as successful as I hope on March 24, on March 25 we’ll have the first story meeting for Movie No. 2.”

Now, everyone knows that saying you are going to make five sequels is completely different from actually making them. If the film bombs this weekend, you can fully expect the producer to back track just a little bit. However, if the film is a massive hit, audiences will have plenty more “Power Rangers” on the way.

Unfortunately, history isn’t really on Saban’s side. Outside of the films by Marvel Studios, most of these mega-franchises just can’t get off the ground. Recent failures like “Assassin’s Creed” and “Warcraft” prove that you can’t bank on sequels just because the intellectual property is popular. It all comes down to the quality of the film, and right now, critics are divided on “Power Rangers.” While some call it a decent start to the franchise, most are saying that it’s just not that great, with a not-so-hot 44% on Rotten Tomatoes.

So for ‘Rangers’ fans hoping to see a decade’s worth of sequels, better go buy some (extra) tickets!
