Watch Roger Deakins’ Recent 2-Hour Masterclass For Film Students, Discussing ‘Blade Runner 2049’ & Much More

Just recently, we shared the news that Roger Deakins and his wife, James, have begun a new podcast that goes into the nitty-gritty of filmmaking, featuring tips and advice about different aspects of the art form. And now, it appears the duo is keeping that going with a new masterclass hosted by the Louis Lumière film school in France.

As seen in the below video, the Roger and James Deakins recorded a new two-hour discussion from their home during the COVID-19 lockdown to answer various questions about filmmaking, as well as giving advice and discussing career achievements, such as working on Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049.”

Honestly, if you are reading this now, you’re likely familiar with Roger Deakins and his Oscar-winning work behind the camera, and the idea of watching him and his wife talk about filmmaking is a perfect way to spend two hours. However, if by chance you have no idea why people hold Deakins up among the legends of filmmaking, then all you have to do is glance at his filmography to understand.

He’s been nominated for 14 Oscars for films including “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Fargo,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Kundun,” “Skyfall,” and “Sicario.” He’s taken home the Best Cinematography Oscar twice for his recent work in the films “1917” and the aforementioned “Blade Runner 2049.” And those are just the films that he got nominated for Oscars for.
