Russell Crowe To Star In A New Horror Film About An Actor Starring In A Horror Film

When A-list actors have conquered most everything they’ve set as goals, from winning awards, topping the box office, playing in a superhero film, and whatever other items are on their acting bucket list, they tend to start taking risks. You’ll have recent acting choices like Brad Pitt use his clout to star in a $100 million space drama about a father and son. There are people like Robert De Niro who will trade in his tough-guy persona for a series of slapstick comedies with Ben Stiller. And in the case of Russell Crowe, he’s going to venture into the world of horror.

According to Deadline (originally reported by HN Entertainment), Crowe has signed on to star in an untitled horror film, written and directed by Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin. But that doesn’t mean the actor is putting on some hockey mask and stalking promiscuous teens at a summer camp. In fact, the untitled film, produced by Miramax, finds Crowe playing an actor that is shooting a horror film (meta!), and the experience appears to take a toll on the professional, as he begins to show signs of madness.

Obviously, Crowe is probably best known for his Oscar-nominated performances in films like “The Insider,” “A Beautiful Mind,” and “Gladiator.” The latter of which, earning him his sole Academy Award. But recently, we’ve seen the actor make some super interesting career choices. He had a lowkey, but powerful, performance in last year’s “Boy Erased,” as a pastor coming to terms with his gay son. Crowe was also recently seen on the festival circuit, promoting his new film “True History of the Kelly Gang.” And earlier this year, he did the whole prosthetic makeup transformation to play Roger Ailes in “The Loudest Voice” limited series on Showtime.

As mentioned, this new horror film comes from Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin, who will be making their directorial debuts with the film. Previously, the duo was probably best known for their writing on the film “The Final Girls” and the TV series “Queen of the South.”

No word on a release date for the untitled film.
