‘Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams’ Trailer: Luca Guadagnino’s Latest Documentary Hits Theaters This August

Four years after his last feature film, “Suspiria,” Luca Guadagnino is back with not one but two movies this year. In November, he will release “Bones & All,” starring Taylor Russell, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Stuhlbarg, and André Holland. In the meantime, however, his latest documentary, “Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams,” will be hitting theatres this summer. The film will also mark Guadagnino’s return to Sony Pictures Classics after “Suspiria” was distributed by Amazon.

Stuhlbarg, who starred in “Call Me By Your Name” and will appear in “Bones & All,” will be narrating the movie, alongside appearances from Martin Scorsese, Deborah Nadoolman Landis, Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin, and many more. 

In a statement, Guadagnino has expressed how thrilled he is to be working with Sony Pictures Classics again to bring the story of Salvatore Ferragamo to the screen: “It is with true joy that I come home to SPC with my new feature documentary,” he said. “The life and legacy of Salvatore Ferragamo speaks for how genius and discipline can conquer the world of imagination and desire. It will be exciting to show the world this experience thanks to the care and wisdom of Michael, Tom, Dylan, and Carmelo.”

The studio has also expressed how thrilled they are to have him back, stating that the film is “is that rare rich documentary about the rise of the fashion icon that goes to the nature of creativity in the twentieth century. Bravo to Luca and his team. We are excited to be bringing the film to audiences everywhere.”

The documentary tracks Salvatore Ferragamo’s fascinating personal, artistic and business story, from his childhood in Bonito, where he made his first pair of shoes, to his journey to America to seek his fortune, from his experiences in Hollywood to his return to Italy, from the verge of bankruptcy to resurgence in his Florence factory and rise to definitive acclaim. Character, instinct, genius, curiosity, and extraordinary intuition: SALVATORE: SHOEMAKER OF DREAMS shows the mystery and magnetism of a complex man, an icon of Italian and international luxury fashion who never lost sight of the importance of family. 

Written by Dana Thomas and produced by Francesco Melzi d’Eril and Gabriele Moratti, “Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams” will release in theatres on August 19.
