'Secret Wars': 'Doctor Strange 2' Writer Michael Waldron Hired For 'Avengers' Sequel

Michael Waldron must have a pretty damn good relationship with Kevin Feige, huh? Not only did Waldron write the first season of “Loki,” which got immediately renewed for Season 2, but he also went on to script “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” As if that wasn’t enough, the writer is also attached to Kevin Feige’s reported “Star Wars” film. And now, believe it or not, he has what is likely the biggest project of them all— “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

According to Deadline, Michael Waldron has been hired to write the script for “Avengers: Secret Wars.” As mentioned, the writer has plenty of experience with Marvel and studio president Kevin Feige, so it’s not really much of a surprise Waldron was called upon to write what is the end of the current Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I mean, hell, “Loki” and “Doctor Strange 2” are basically the building blocks for this whole story.

While there is no plot details (or really any details) about ‘Secret Wars,’ we can speculate quite a bit based on the Marvel Comics story of the same name. Well, stories. You see, “Secret Wars” has been used a few different times in the Marvel Universe, but they each seem to revolve around a large number of heroes being called upon to do battle in an alternate universe. The most recent version found various multiverses colliding and forming a new universe where all the different variants of characters were forced to interact with each other. The heroes battle bad guys and eventually order (and the multiverse) is restored.

What makes the ‘Secret Wars’ film a little more interesting than a straight-up adaptation of those stories is that the movie is actually preceded by another ‘Avengers’ film, ‘Kang Dynasty,’ which arrives a few months prior. Waldron isn’t involved in that film’s writing, as Jeff Loveness was recently hired along with Destin Daniel Cretton, who will direct. So, you have to assume both ‘Avengers’ films will be connected in some way.

Next on the list for Marvel Studios is to find a director for “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Again, you can speculate and assume that the studio will hire someone who has worked well with Feige in the past. Ryan Coogler? Maybe someone like Nia DaCosta? We’ll have to wait and see.

“Avengers: Secret Wars” arrives in theaters on November 7, 2025.
