Sony Working On 'Spider-Man' Spin-Off 'Silk' About A Korean-American Spider-Woman

Not to be outdone by Warner Bros. and DC films, Sony is starting to collect quite a few officially unannounced superhero films that fill up their Spider-verse. The company who owns the rights to SpiderMan, but allows Marvel Studios to use that character for their ‘Avengers’ flicks, is looking to expand their superhero universe by tapping into the plethora of Spider-Man side characters.

The latest one that is reportedly getting the big screen treatment is none other than Silk. According to The Wrap, Cindy Moon, aka Silk, is getting her very own film produced by Amy Pascal. If you’re thinking to yourself, “who the hell is Silk and why should I care?” then you are forgiven.

The character of Silk first appeared in a 2014 issue of “Amazing Spider-Man.” Cindy Moon is a Korean-American woman and was a high school classmate of Peter Parker. While on the same field trip that resulted in Peter getting bitten by the radioactive spider, Cindy Moon was also bitten by the same arachnid. After her parents became aware of her powers (which are very similar to Spider-Man, except she has organic webbing), she was taken by away and locked in a special room for 13 years. She was then released and became the hero known as Silk.

The proposed “Silk” film joins the ranks of “Silver & Black,” “Nightwatch,” and “Morbius the Living Vampire” as projects that Sony is reportedly working on but hasn’t officially announced. The only film that has been confirmed to be released is the upcoming “Venom” film, which will hit theaters in October. Sony also has an animated film titled “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” set to come out in December.
