‘Spaceballs’: Bill Pullman & Rick Moranis To Return For Amazon MGM’s Sequel, Keke Palmer & Lewis Pullman Also Join Cast

The new “Spaceballs” movie is now a family affair. Deadline reports that not only will Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis return in the upcoming sequel to reprise their roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet from the 1987 original, but Pullman’s son, Lewis, and Keke Palmer also join the cast. Pullman and Moranis join fellow veteran Mel Brooks. As for the newcomers? Palmer’s role remains undisclosed, but Lewis will (surprise surprise) play the son of Bill’s Lone Starr.

Amazon MGM announced the “Spaceballs” sequel last June, with Josh Greenbaum directing a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad.  Comedian Gad will also star in the pic, and produces it alongside Imagine Entertainment‘s Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody, Brooks, and Greenbaum.  Executive producers on the film include Kevin Salter, Adam Merims, Sami, and Hernandez.

Is it any surprise Lewis joins his Dad for this sequel? Not really. Pullman is one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars thanks to recent turns in “Thunderbolts*” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” among others. Palmer is a comedic force to be reckoned with, too. The actress is coming off of “One Of Them Days,” which just had a sequel announced by TriStar. Next up for Palmer? “The Pickup” hitting Prime Video on August 6, and then Aziz Ansari‘s “Good Fortune” on October 17.  Oh, and she’s in Boots Riley‘s new pic “I Love Boosters;” NEON handles the theatrical release there.

But the return of Moranis may be the biggest news here.  The “Little Shop Of Horrors” and “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” actor stepped away from his career in the late ’90s after the death of his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, to raise his children, and has barely graced the big screen since.  Other iconic roles for Moranis include the early “Ghostbusters” films and the Canadian sketch comedy series “SCTV.”

As for the elder Pullman, his career highlights include the late David Lynch‘s “Lost Highway” and the ’90s blockbuster “Independence Day.” More recently, Pullman starred in “Dark Waters” and “The High Note,” as well as series like “The Sinner.” Up next for the actor? The Duffer Brothers‘ upcoming Netflix series “The Boroughs,” as A24‘s “Famous” with Zac Efron.

Amazon MGM currently has its “Spaceballs” sequel slated for a 2027 theatrical release. Stay tuned for more casting news as the film approaches production.
