Taika Waititi Talks 'Thor 4' & Says Film Makes 'Ragnarok' Feel "Very Safe"

With the delay of “Black Widow,” the entirety of the Phase 4 lineup of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shifted. And that means we are now almost two full years away from the release of Taika Waititi’sThor: Love & Thunder.” But that isn’t stopping the filmmaker from talking about the project and teasing fans with what might be included.

Speaking to Tessa Thompson, as well as Mark Ruffalo, during his ‘Ragnarok’ quarantine “watch party,” Waititi dropped some hints about what we might expect to see in the upcoming ‘Thor’ sequel. And while he doesn’t give any true details, his description for ‘Love & Thunder’ makes it seem like fans are in for something special at the beginning of 2022.

“[‘Love & Thunder’] is just so over-the-top now, in the very best way,” explained Waititi. “It makes ‘Ragnarok’ seem like a very run-of-the-mill, very safe film.

He added, “It’s like 10-year-olds told us what should be in a movie and we said ‘yes’ to every single thing.”

Other things of note that were shared in the very interesting/unusual ‘Ragnarok’ livestream was that the new film will also feature space sharks (Marvel alien species that is exactly as you might guess), it will explore more information about Korg’s culture, and may or may not include the slightly overweight Thor (Waititi is still figuring that stuff out, apparently).

In addition, the filmmaker also sheds some light on how the films that are in production at Marvel Studios share information. That is to say, they really don’t. And one example of that is with a story he shared about Loki. Waititi says that he was interested in the idea of killing Loki in ‘Ragnarok,’ but he was told that Marvel had other plans for the character. Obviously, they didn’t tell him the true plan was to kill Loki in the opening minutes of “Avengers: Infinity War.” All Waititi knew is that Loki’s death was off the table for ‘Ragnarok.’
