'Teen Titans GO! To The Movies' Trailer Finally Lets Nic Cage Play Superman And Pokes Fun At 'Deadpool'

And you thought “Deadpool 2” would be the only meta-superhero film of the summer.

In the new trailer for “Teen Titans GO! to the Movies,” we see the Teen Titans (of Cartoon Network fame) exploring the recent explosion of superhero movies on the mainstream, with Robin wondering why he’s never been the subject of his own movie. But that’s just where the jokes and fun begin.

If you’ve never seen “Teen Titans GO!” then you’re probably confused by the trailers brand of humor. Unlike the famous superhero cartoons of the past, ‘GO!’ is more Loony Tunes than anything else. The series is known for its slapstick, irreverent sense of humor, and as you can see, they’ve turned their satirical eye to the current crop of superhero films. And not even Marvel is immune to their jokes.

Probably the biggest moment of the trailer is when the superhero group discovers Deathstroke (just known as “Slade”) and wants to turn him into their arch-nemesis. They refer to the fact that Slade reminds them of another famous movie superhero, Deadpool. This is a callback to the fact that Deadpool was clearly created as a rip-off of Deathstroke, down to their secret identities being so similar (Slade Wilson vs Wade Wilson).

The other major standout for those paying attention is Nicolas Cage voicing Superman. After the failed attempt to launch his own ‘Superman’ movie, Cage finally gets the chance to play the famous hero, and it’s pretty awesome. Cage is joined by the regular voice cast from the TV series along with Kristen Bell, Will Arnett, James Corden, Halsey, and Lil Yachty as Green Lantern.

Overall, “Teen Titans GO! to the Movies” looks like a fun escape from the overly serious superhero films we’ve gotten in recent years.

“Teen Titans GO! to the Movies” hits theaters on July 27.
