'Terminator: Dark Fate': Arnold Schwarzenegger & Linda Hamilton Highlight The Latest First-Look Images

The idea of a new “Terminator” film is an interesting, but also scary, proposition. After two incredible films from director James Cameron, the ‘Teriminator’ brand has suffered through some pretty terrible sequels. But alas, each one offers fans of Cameron’s originals the brief bits of hope that maybe, just maybe, the new one won’t be bad. And that’s exactly the mindset most fans have going into “Terminator: Dark Fate.”

Thanks to IGN, we have some more first-look images from the upcoming sixth entry in the ‘Terminator’ franchise. And yes, these images look pretty good, showcasing all the main characters that are going to populate ‘Dark Fate.’

While the plot is still unknown, there’s renewed interest in the franchise (which suffered a near-fatal blow thanks to “Terminator: Genisys”) thanks to the heavy involvement from James Cameron and the return of Linda Hamilton. As seen in these images, Hamilton returns to the franchise that she helped define after decades away. She’s joined once again by Arnold Schwarzenegger, as some sort of older robot. Then there are the newcomers, including Mackenzie Davis, Diego Boneta, Gabriel Luna, and Natalia Reyes.

Speaking about the cast, director Tim Miller said that Hamilton’s involvement lends something special to this sequel.

“What makes or breaks a movie is whether I care about the characters when everything starts exploding,” said Miller. “I’m sure every action filmmaker says that, but I did really try and focus on the relationships of these characters to one another.”

He continued, “And the fact that Linda came back makes this particular ‘Terminator’ fresh, this story could only continue with her in the role of Sarah Conner. That’s the most important thing for me. Linda reinvented this character in a way that both honors who she was before and brings something new to the role.”

But of course, it’s not just Hamilton that gets the director’s praise. The new additions to the ‘Terminator’ franchise also give the film something that will make fans want to check this out.

“Mackenzie is fantastic, I think people are going to be amazed by what a badass she is,” said the director. “And Natalia is wonderful — when you read the script you might think, ‘Oh, she’s not a warrior or a soldier or anything exciting like that,’ or worry perhaps that she might be overshadowed by the other four — but absolutely not. She’s amazing, a-ma-zing.”

He added, “Because so much of the film takes place on the messy fringes of society, I wanted to bring an indie film sensibility to an action plot in a way that I don’t think I’ve seen before… at least not on a big budget scale. We have a lot of powerful, moving character moments up front, but toward the back half of the movie, when shit gets going…. holy fucking shit —it just doesn’t stop. And we tried very hard to make it all different and fresh — it’s not just people punching each other; it’s a roller coaster ride and I think great.”

Fans will get a chance to either love the ‘Terminator’ franchise once again, or wish that it would finally die for good, when the film hits theaters November 1.
