After the release of some impressive and minimalist still images from Michael Sarnoski’s “The Death of Robin Hood” starring Hugh Jackman (“Song Sung Blue”), Jodie Comer (“28 Years Later”), and Bill Skarsgård (“IT: Weclome To Derry”), A24 has dropped the film’s first trailer, featuring the first glimpse at footage of the tale focused on a grizzled and seemingly hated iteration of the iconic but mythical bandit.
In Sarnoski’s modern iteration, we see a critically injured Robin Hood (Jackman), who reflects on a life of crime and murder, and now realizes that his fate is in the hands of a mysterious woman (Comer). While Comer’s role had been somewhat of a mystery, it was previously revealed that Skarsgård is playing the role of Robin’s protege, Little John.

Some of the other notable names in the supporting cast include Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”) and Noah Jupe (“Hamnet”). It certainly feels like Jackman is channeling a more gruff persona, as we’ve seen before in performances such as Denis Villeneuve’s “Prisoners” and James Mangold’s R-rated mutant romp, “Logan.” Perhaps, a more battlewary and desperate version of the thief turned folk hero than we’ve experienced in the past.
Sarnoski is already reuniting with A24 for a live-action feature adaptation of the acclaimed Hideo Kojima genre-bending delivery boy video game “Death Stranding,” which he’ll both write and direct. Although it’s unclear when that will begin, and whether actors such as Norman Reedus will reprise their characters on the big screen.
