Tom Hardy's 'Taboo' Renewed For Second Season

Huh. I gotta be honest, given that “Taboo” didn’t really capture the cultural conversation the way many expected it to, I didn’t think the show would have much of a chance at renewal. But reviews were mostly positive, and I suppose some slack can be cut when your series features Tom Hardy in the lead role. All of this is to say that “Taboo” is coming back for a second season.

The show finds Tom Hardy playing James Delaney, who grumbles his way through the early 1800s, returning home to England from abroad, and looking to take over his family’s empire. Secrets and whatnot are revealed. It’s a bold show that’s heavy on atmosphere, and writer/producer Steven Knight is pretty happy they got to make the series they wanted.

“I’m thrilled that a work which pushes boundaries has been so well received and found such a large and enthusiastic audience in the U.S. and Britain,” he said. ”We have tried to take an impressionistic, rather than figurative, approach to a narrative which we hope more accurately portrays the spirit of an extraordinary time in history. James Delaney will continue to explore many realities as he takes his band of misfits to a new world, thanks to FX and the BBC, partners who could not be more suited to collaborating in ground breaking work.”

No word yet if “Taboo” season 2 will be ready for next year, but it’s definitely on the way. I guess it’s time to binge what we’ve missed. [Screen Daily]
