The budgets are getting pretty extreme with studio-backed superhero event films, and there is now word that actor Tom Holland is being thrust into A-list status with how much he’s reportedly making for his latest Spidey adventure explored in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” and it would place him in similar company with one of the top dogs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his “Avengers” cohort.
A new report claims that Holland has got a hefty $20 million and is looking at earnings of over $100 million as part of the new deal he signed with Marvel Studios and co-producer/distributor/financial backer Sony Pictures. The movie was released on July 31 and has now become the highest-grossing movie in the “Spider-Man” franchise and the most successful film in Sony’s stable (after a string of villain-focused spinoffs had struggled to get audience support).

“According to three individuals with knowledge of Holland’s deal, the actor scored a base salary of at least $20 million up front — an increase of $10 million from his last Spider-Man gig — with the potential to earn upwards of $100 million when backend bonuses are factored in,” the report from The Wrap as they breakdown how Holland is making huge bank on his successful sequel.
For some extra context, this means that Holland’s upfront salary quote has now jumped from $10 million to $20 million (closer to what Robert Downey Jr. was making toward the end of his MCU tenture), and could mean that he could be in a position to ask for that kind of money in other MCU films (RDJ is said to have nabbed $10 million to appear in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and was making $75 million for “Avengers: Endgame“).
Those backend bonuses will likely keep growing as the movie continues to earn; it has already crossed the $2 billion mark at the global box office (passing the total earnings of “Spider-Man: No Way Home“) and could inch closer to $3 billion as the film’s total comes in (not a sure bet, but plausible given how quickly it’s been able to make billions).
Sounds like Holland made a sweetheart deal, and we imagine both studios are itching to get “Spider-Man 5” into development as soon as possible. Although director Destin Daniel Cretton is busy with “Naruto” at Lionsgate and is working on “Shang-Chi 2.” That amount of money could be why we haven’t officially heard about future crossover films, although the post-credit scene in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” suggested that “Avengers: Secret Wars” is VERY likely and will take him off-world again.
