'Wendy' Trailer: 'Beasts Of The Southern Wild' Director Benh Zeitlin Reimagines The Peter Pan Story In His New Film

All you need to really know about the upcoming fantasy drama, “Wendy,” is that its a riff on the classic Peter Pan story as told by filmmaker Benh Zeitlin. If you’re familiar with the story and are familiar with the previous work of Zeitlin, you don’t even really need to watch the trailer to know what to expect.

However, we really do recommend you watch the trailer.

The new look at the upcoming film doesn’t feel like your typical, run-of-the-mill Peter Pan re-imagining. But then again, what else would you expect from the man who brought audiences “Beasts of the Southern Wild?” “Wendy” definitely has echoes of Pan, as we are introduced to the wild children that run away to Neverland and promise to never grow up. But there’s a grit and realism on display, combined with the more fantastical elements teased, that make this seem like a version of the story that audiences haven’t really been introduced to before.

As mentioned, this is the first film for director Benh Zeitlin, since his Oscar-nominated debut “Beasts of the Southern Wild” in 2012. He co-wrote “Wendy” alongside his sister, Eliza Zeitlin.

“Wendy” arrives in theaters on February 28, 2020.

Here’s the synopsis:

The classic story of Peter Pan is wildly reimagined in this ragtag epic from Benh Zeitlin, director of BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD. Lost on a mysterious island where aging and time have come unglued, Wendy must fight to save her family, her freedom, and the joyous spirit of youth from the deadly peril of growing up.
