Wesley Snipes, James Earl Jones, Leslie Jones & More Join Eddie Murphy & Arsenio Hall In Upcoming 'Coming To America' Sequel

Though he recently saw his “Blade” franchise get taken over by Mahershala Ali, actor Wesley Snipes has seemingly landed on his feet, scoring a role in one of the most anticipated comedies of 2020, “Coming to America 2.”

According to THR, Snipes is the latest actor to join the upcoming sequel, which is set to star Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall, reprising their roles from the 1988 comedy classic. The report says that Snipes is set to play General Izzi, a ruler from a neighboring country. No other details were given.

As mentioned, Snipes is probably best known for his role in the trilogy of “Blade” films, but the actor recently has popped up in the ‘Expendables’ franchise, Spike Lee’sChi-raq,” and the FX series “What We Do In The Shadows.” However, what’s probably more relevant to “Coming to America 2,” Snipes is set to co-star with Eddie Murphy in filmmaker Craig Brewer’s upcoming film “Dolemite is My Name.” Brewer, of course, is also the director of the upcoming comedy sequel.

There isn’t a lot in the way of plot details about the sequel. What we do know is that the premise of the film follows Murphy’s Prince Akeem as he comes to America, once again, to reconnect with his long-lost son. One has to assume that the film will find the American boy going to the fictional country of Zamunda and being a fish out of water there. You know, because these comedy sequels normally just invert the premise of the first film for more laughs.

“Coming to America 2” is set to begin filming later this year for a 2021 release. Update: James Earl Jones and Paul Bates will be reprising their roles from the original “Coming To America” movie. Rick Ross, Leslie Jones, and Kiki Layne have also joined the cast.
