Abandoned, Enslaved, Destined: Watch The New Trailer For Keanu Reeves' '47 Ronin'

47 Ronin, Keanu Reeves

As “World War Z” proved this summer, a blockbuster movie going through numerous delays and production woes doesn’t automatically add up to a box office bomb. In fact, the zombie thriller was one of Brad Pitt‘s most successful films of his career, and for audiences at large, the bad blogosphere buzz didn’t seem to deter them from buying tickets. So, will the same fate await “47 Ronin“?

Another big budget effort, this too faced release date pushes and reports of reshoots and battles in the editing room, but Universal are selling the sizzle. This new trailer is short on plot, but high on razzle-dazzle, showing off lots of special effects and monsters and other neat-o stuff, and keeping Keanu Reeves’ acting to a minimum, which is probably to everyone’s benefit. Here’s the official synopsis:

Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin.  After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people.  Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.

As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.

The 3D samurai thingy lands on Christmas Day. Will you be there? Watch below.
