Disney and Pixar have released the first teaser for “Toy Story 5,” revealing the introduction of Lilypad — a frog-shaped, high-tech smart-tablet toy voiced by Greta Lee (“Past Lives,” “The Morning Show,” “TRON: Ares”) — whose presence immediately complicates life for the legacy crew. According to the studio description, Lilypad’s sleek design and advanced features make Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder as they collide with a modern threat to playtime.
Returning voices include Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, and Tony Hale as Forky, with Conan O’Brien joining the cast as Smarty Pants, a toilet-training tech toy engineered for comedic disruption. Lilypad’s introduction marks the franchise’s first true exploration of “toy meets tech,” setting up a generational clash between classic imagination-driven play and connected smart-device logic.
Behind the film, Andrew Stanton directs, alongside co-director Kenna Harris and producer Lindsey Collins. Stanton and Harris describe the creative approach as a balance of humor and poignancy, exploring how legacy toys respond to technology reshaping the world around them. They highlight Lee’s ability to bring “a playfully antagonistic tone with humor and heart,” positioning Lilypad as both a disruptor and an emotional pivot point.
“Toy Story 5” opens in theaters exclusively on June 19, 2026, promising a new chapter that examines what happens when old-school toys face a future built on screens, smarts, and artificial intelligence — and what it means for the gang when technology tries to take over playtime.
