Director Patty Jenkins Not Yet Signed For 'Wonder Woman' Sequel

While you can set your watch to Marvel‘s blockbuster machine, where every movement and development is carefully laid out by Kevin Feige, DC Films continues to shoot from the hip. While plenty of films have been announced, the only one that we know for sure is sticking to its release date is next year’s “Aquaman.” Anything is liable to change at Warner Bros. based on the mood of the moment, and you can’t help but think that given the big, warm reception for “Wonder Woman,” the studio might be thinking of a sequel. However, if so, they’re missing one key ingredient.

While she has plenty of ideas about where the next movie might go, director Patty Jenkins has not yet signed on for a sequel. THR reveals that while star Gal Gadot has the now-standard option on her contract for “Wonder Woman 2,” Jenkins had been hired for just one film. This is apparently regular procedure at the studio now, particularly for filmmakers making their first blockbuster foray, but it’s a strategy that could cost WB considerably, as they’ll likely have to pony up some serious dough for Jenkins to return. She has been a great advocate for “Wonder Woman,” and has become arguably as important to the property as Gadot.

Negotiations will apparently get underway soon, but it’s still unclear when a sequel might arrive. According to the trade, “Justice League Dark” and Joss Whedon‘s “Batgirl” are the priority pictures for the DCEU at the moment. Still, WB would be wise to ensure Jenkins will be along for the next adventure because she’ll undoubtedly have a lot of people knocking on her door.
