Matt Damon Would Only Play A Superhero In A Ben Affleck-Directed Movie, Talks Future Of Jason Bourne

Never say never. After “The Bourne Ultimatum,” Matt Damon stepped away from the franchise that made him a worldwide star and for years resisted coming back to play the amnesia-stricken hero. Now, nearly a decade later, “Jason Bourne” is gearing up to hit theaters. So, when asked recently if he’d ever follow his best bud Ben Affleck, wear a rubber suit and play a superhero, Damon pretty much said he wasn’t interested, though left the door open just a crack.

“I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment,” he told The Irish Examiner (via AV Club). “If [Ben] was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben.”

Damon also quipped that Affleck gives himself the best role in whatever movie he’s directing, but you can already sense the fanboys trying to suss out where Damon could fit into his best bud’s Batman movie. I’ll leave it to the comic book heads to toss out their suggestions.

But in some ways, Matt Damon has already played a superhero with Jason Bourne. The super-skilled, highly trained government operative could probably give anyone from the pages of Marvel or DC Comics a serious run for their money in a one-on-one battle. And while Damon calls himself the “curator” of the character at the moment, he does realize that somewhere down the line the property will be relaunched. And he’s cool with it.

“[I’m] definitely going to be replaced some day by some new young Jason Bourne. That happens to everybody and they reboot these things, and that’s totally fine,” Damon said at a press conference in Seoul, South Korea (via Yahoo!).

But let’s not to get too far ahead of ourselves. Damon is still punching and kicking and he returns with “Jason Bourne” on July 29th.
