As things heat up at the cinemas, television is slowing down regarding new releases. This is good since it allows us to catch up on all the other critically-acclaimed series that have made waves this year or dive into the bleak uncertainty of the final season of “Squid Game.” While July might be light on new series to binge, there’s still plenty to maintain our attention as the summer truly hits.

There are plenty of follow-ups and new seasons for fans of pre-existing series, from classic fantasy to cringeworthy comedy and YA. Lena Dunham is returning to television, and any epic fantasy or science-fiction fan will have plenty to distract themselves with. It’s a smaller list, but there’s no doubt that they all hold their own appeal.
“The Sandman”
The second and final season of the Netflix series “The Sandman” arrives to close out the story, albeit abruptly. Adapted by showrunner Allan Heinberg with director Jamie Childs, the second season follows Dream’s reunion with his family as he must seek ways to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. Tom Sturridge, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Patton Oswalt, and more return.
Release Date: Season 2 Volume 1 premieres July 3 on Netflix, with Volume 2 premiering July 24.
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”
The once-upon-a-time, little show that could, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” returns for its seventeenth season on FX. Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito return as the Paddy’s Pub residents, narcissistic menaces for a season that will include their side of the “Abbott Elementary” crossover event. It’s not the only crossover event for the Gang either, with Frank set to debut on “The Golden Bachelor” as well.
Release Date: Season 17 premieres July 9 on FX.
“Too Much”
Lena Dunham returns to television with the Netflix comedy series “Too Much,” starring Megan Stalter. Created by Dunham and Luis Felber, the series follows Jessica as she starts a new life in London following a major breakup and finds a new connection with Felix, played by Will Sharpe. The ensemble cast, including Emily Ratajkowski, Richard E. Grant, Andrew Scott, Andrew Rannells, Rhea Perlman, and more, is impressive.
Release Date: The series premieres July 10 on Netflix.
“Dexter: Resurrection”
A direct sequel to New Blood, “Dexter: Resurrection” takes place a few weeks later, following the serial killer Dexter Morgan, who has recovered from his gunshot wound. The series follows him on his journey to New York in search of Harrison. Michael C. Hall returns once again as the infamous character with Peter Dinklage, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, James Remar, Uma Thurman, Ntare Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, and Emilia Suárez rounding out the cast.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres July 11 on Paramount+ with Showtime.
