Cannes Preview: Trailer For Sion Sono’s ‘Guilty Of Romance’; NSFW Pics Of ‘L’Apollonide’

Yes, the Cannes Film Festival is mere weeks away and as the cinema world gets ready to descend on the Croisette, more peeks at some of the upcoming films are making their way to the web.

First up, Japanese director Sion Sono — perhaps best known for “Suicide Club,” “Love Exposure” and “Cold Fish” (which we saw at VIFF and loved) — will hit the Director’s Fortnight sidebar with his latest, “Guilty of Romance.” It’s a noir this time around and not surprisingly, it promises to once again provoke audiences. Here’s the synopsis with the trailer after the jump courtesy of Twitch:

Izumi is married to a famous romantic novelist but their life seems just a simple repetition without romance. One day, she decides to follow her desires and accepts to be a naked model that fakes sex in front of the camera. Soon she meets a mentor and starts selling her body to strangers but at home, she is still the wife she is supposed to be. One day a brutally murdered body is found in the love hotels district. The police tries to understand what happened.

Meanwhile over at the Palais, French helmer Betrand Bonello will be going for the big prize with his competition entry “L’Apollonide.” The arthouse filmmaker, perhaps best known for his 2001 film “The Pornographer” with Jean-Pierre Leaud, will once again explore sexuality with his film taking place in a brothel at the beginning of the 20th century. The plot goes into motion when the workers shut themselves off from the world after one of their own is horribly disfigured by a client. You can check out some pics from the film below, and yeah, only one of them shows boobs hence the NSFW tag, but if anything, this looks lusciously shot.[Eyes Wired Open via InContention]
