Dead or alive, this remake is being made. Yep, “RoboCop” has been rebooted, bringing back everyone’s favorite cyborg for more action and less satire. And if this first clip is anything to go by, you might want to stick with Paul Verhoeven‘s version for the time being.
Employing a beyond-dorky rock ‘n roll soundtrack, seemingly to dress up the otherwise dull video game action, we’re not quite sure what the tone here is supposed to be. Cool? Earnest? Intentionally ironic? If the latter, it’s not really that funny and has us worried that that “RoboCop” will be nothing more than another generic action flick, just with an unconventional hero. And that would be shame given the extensive promotional campaign this thing has been given, particularly when it comes to the fictional OmniCorp, with their 2027 CES Presentation (and audience reaction), attempting to add some depth to this redo.
We’ll leave it in your hands. Does this clip (via IGN) work, or is it a sign of trouble? “RoboCop” arrives on February 5th. Check out the scene below, along with the CES stuff, TV spots and more.
